Overview

Delegates from all around the world will descend on Houston to participate in the 2011 World Energy Council Houston Business Forum. Special emphasis will be placed on those countries and companies doing business in North America.

Senior corporate and government delegations from over 20 WEC member countries are expected at the Minister and Chief Executive Officer level. Several hundred participants are expected. Hosts are: The Energy Council of Canada, The Mexico Association for Energy & Sustainable Development, and The United States Energy Association.

The events will principally be held at the Hilton Americas, 1600 Lamar Street, Houston, Texas. Houston is well known as one of the primary global energy centers and many significant energy companies have Houston operations. Site visits are likely to be available to numerous locations and an accompanying persons program will be available if deemed useful.

Major issues of 2011 will be discussed and debated such as the future of deep offshore drilling; the global nuclear renaissance post Fukushima; the unconventional natural gas plays, particularly shale gas and the global LNG market; carbon capture and storage, specifically CO2 pipelines for enhanced oil recovery; the future of coal; the role of renewables and efficiency, and smart grid deployment. A special emphasis will be placed on World Energy Council priorities such as the WEC Assessment of Energy Policy and Practices; Global Energy Scenarios; Mobility and Energy Trade.

A major objective of the Forum will be to bring together government leaders and corporate executives who have business interests in Houston. This forum and Houston will be highlighted as a place that the energy industry gets business done.

Flexibility will be built into the program to allow a focus on issues of global importance that develop as we move into the 2011 global energy world.
