EBRD to lend USD 61 million for Shardara hydro plant upgrade in Kazakhstan - Interfax reported that the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development will lend USD 61.2 million to upgrade the Shardara hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Kazakhstan.  The EBRD signed the deal with and OJSC Shardara HPP a subsidiary of Samruk-Energo. The Shardara HPP Modernization Project is included in Kazakhstan program for industrial and innovation development in 2010-2014 and aimed at improving reliability of the hydro plant and increasing its installed capacity by 16% to 116 MW. Kazakhstan to borrow 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas for heating season -Kazakhstan will borrow 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas from China, Russia and Uzbekistan for the heating season, Kazinform reported with the reference to Oil and Gas Minister Sauat Mynbayev.  "We have agreed on a 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas loan with China, Gazprom [Russian gas company] and Uzbekistan to provide the country with the gas in the heating season. Kyrgyz Republic adopts progressive energy efficiency legislation in dialogue with the EBRD -   Kyrgyz Republic makes a big step towards energy efficient buildings thanks to new legislation, developed with assistance from the EBRD.  The Kyrgyz Republic government approved two new regulations with a Government Decree on 2 August 2012. The new regulations introduce a set of instruments facilitating energy efficiency of all types of buildings. The new regulations provide procedures implementing the Law on “Energy Performance of Buildings”. Chinese firm mulls cross-border power grid- A leading Chinese power transmission provider is considering a cross-border grid project to share electricity between northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and neighboring Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Zhang Xin, chairman of Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co Ltd, said during the ongoing 2nd China-Eurasia Expo held in Xinjiang from September 2... Zhang said Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have abundant hydro-electricity resources in summer,but they experience power shortages during the dry winter season. India offers help to Tajikistan on unconventional energy- India today offered to train Tajik personnel in the field of renewable energy and said it was willing to set up pilot projects in Tajikistan.  Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said the Indian government was ready to help Tajikistan in the field on unconventional energy by training its people and set up pilot projects so that it can learn the benefits of alternative energy models. He was addressing industrialists from the two countries in the presence of Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon...He said in the coming days, global warming can reduce large glaciers into "trickle of streams" and create water scarcity. BHEL signs preliminary deal with Tajikistan for 100-MW hydro-electric power project - State-owned BHEL today said it has signed a preliminary agreement with Tajikistan for setting up a 100 MW hydro-electric power project. BHEL has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Energy and Industry, Republic of Tajikistan to set up a 100 MW Hydro Electric Power Plant in the country," the company said in a statement. The plant will be set up by Bhel on the Zeravshan river in Tajikistan, and will help in harnessing the country's hydro potential, it said.  Bhel will use its experience in hydro power plants to offer the optimum techno-economic solution for the project....Source: EconomicTimes.com
EU supports Rohun HPP’s expertise in Tajikistan - The European Union (EU) supports the World Bank's efforts on the implementation of independent international expertise of constructing Rohun hydropower plant, Avesta.tj reported on Monday.  According to the report, the EU waits for the results of the expertise.  The organization also supports carrying out the additional research of alternative ways of providing regional energy security.  Rogun is one of the planned hydropower plants of Vakhsh Cascade in southern Tajikistan....Source: Trend.az

Turkmenistan interested in increasing energy exports to Tajikistan - Turkmenistan is interested in increasing energy exports to Tajikistan, as well as the import of agricultural and industrial products from Tajikistan, Turkmen Ambassador to Tajikistan Chinar Rustamova said at a briefing in Dushanbe on Monday, Avesta.Tj reported.  She said that in the first half of 2012, exports of Turkmen oil products to Tajikistan amounted to about 33,000 tons.
