The US-East Africa Geothermal Partnership (EAGP) successfully completed a series of nine in-country capacity building workshops for employees of Kenya’s Geothermal Development Company (GDC) in March 2014.  The EAGP Capacity Building Program provided classroom training for GDC in most aspects of geothermal project planning, development and implementation.  The initial program consisted of nine one-week modules which covered a range of topics, including geothermal geoscience, environmental policy and regulatory issues, drilling engineering, geothermal project management, reservoir engineering, and power plant design. The courses were taught primarily by U.S. geothermal industry experts, as well as some host-country experts. 

OBJECTIVE

The objectives of the EAGP Capacity Building program are to (1) strengthen local capacity to enable East African countries to advance their geothermal development programs and (2) build relationships between East African officials and the U.S. trainers (geothermal company, consultant and training institution representatives) that pave the way for the participation of the U.S. entities in the country programs on a long-term basis.
