Biography: 

Kirk Bailey joined the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Executive Leadership Team in 2013
as the executive vice president of operations. Before joining the AER, he was president of
Kushog Consulting and senior independent advisor for Deloitte and Brion Energy. Kirk is a
former member of Suncor Energy's executive team, where he held a variety of senior
executive leadership positions in refining and upstream resource development. He led the
creation of Suncor's Oil Sands Ventures business unit responsible for Suncor's interest in
$20 billion of oil sands joint venture projects. Kirk is also a former board member of
Syncrude Canada.

As executive vice president of Suncor's Oil Sands business unit, Kirk led changes that
established new records for safety and environmental performance while simultaneously
achieving best-ever production performance. Kirk's career included a number of assignments
in Suncor's downstream business, including vice president of the Suncor Sarnia Refinery. An
active contributor to industry associations and community organizations, Kirk was chair of
the Oil Sands Safety Association board of directors and a member of the Alberta Chamber of
Resources board of directors and executive committee. Kirk is also past chair of the Family
Counselling Centre in Sarnia and a parent volunteer with the Fort McMurray Competitive
Ski Society and Mount Allen Ski Team. Kirk is a volunteer fundraiser for the Calgary
Health Trust. Kirk is a graduate of McMaster University's chemical engineering program
(B.Eng. '87, M.Eng. '91).
