This presentation covers the challenges associated with flexible operation of conventional coal and combined cycle power plants. It outlines the different effects of solar photovoltaic and wind generation on the dispatch of fossil power plants. Some examples of technical implications for the safe, reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible generation of electricity from these plants are provided. The presentation concludes with a discussion of industry efforts to manage the challenges introduced by flexible operation.
